Unbrick hard bricked Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) procedure :-

Boot into Linux / OS X  and open terminal.
  • 2
Insert your microSD card into the reader and plug into your  your computer

    sudo dd if=/<path_to_unbrick.img> of=/dev/sdX

X is taken from the step above. Ignore the partitions since they will be removed automatically.

  • 8
Reboot the device into Download mode using Volume Down + Home + Power

can it work on windows 8?

    • RohanKandwal

it might but that will be painstaking task. Why don’t you use a live version of Linux? You could use Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, etc. Make a bootable pendrive and live boot from it.

From there you could run the above commands and have your phone back in no time.

Oh sorry i was in confusion, sorry rohan..

      • Jagadeesh

Dear Rohan i will explain u what exactly happened,
I was running my android on 4.4.4 version slim kat,
after that i have downloaded MIUI rom from one site for skyrocket finally i found that is for SGH-I777, my mobile is SGH-I727, i flashed it using TWRP , it was showing installation successful.
Then i gave restart, after that no response, nothin, its looks like a real brick.,
So i am browsing net for the past 1 week, but i cant able to get my device back.
But i had seen the above method to unbrick S3, i too decided to follow the same, but i cant able to find Debrick.image for my mobile samsung galaxy skyrocket SGH-I727., Almost i searched everywhere, but i cant..

Finally am seeking ur help, luckily i got reply from you, ..

        Thanks for response..

      • Jagadeesh

Now am clear with the above method, about debricking the device, but I dont know how to make the debrick.img file of my own. Kindly advice me what to do…

Important: One of my friend is also having the same mobile phone, with running on same android OS. Is it useful for me to do something with that mobile to bring my mobile back??

        I have
        1. Hard bricked Samsung skyrocket SGH-I727 (AT&T)
        2. Samsung OEM Data cable
        3. Sandisk ultra 16 GB class 10 SD Card.
        4. Windows 8.1 OS
        5. Win 32 image write Application.

        Kindly advice me please………
You are my only hope now…

        • RohanKandwal

If you are unable to create a debrick image then you will only have JTAG option left for you. It might cost you some bucks but will (99%) brick your device back.

          • Jagadeesh

            My dear bro,

            Thankyou verymuch for your guidance..

One more doubt , when i flash that zip to make the debrick image, after that do i need to reflash the OS? or i can simply reboot the system??

            Kindly let me know bro…

          • RohanKandwal

The debrick image generally contains all the low level information needed for the device to boot up. If your /system isn’t affected then you can use you device simply but you must have the debrick.img all the time on your sdCard. If you don’t want to rely on the sdCard all the time then you will have to flash the stock firmware using Odin.

But in your case, you flashed wrong firmware which messed up the bootloader partition and might (99%) have damaged the /system partition (which contain Android OS). Thus, specially in your case, via debrick you will be able to boot into the Download Mode and then from there you will have to reflash your device using Odin. After that, keep the debrick.img for safekeeping and your device will no longer rely on sdCard.

          • Jagadeesh

So i will bring my friends mobile, and i will flash that zip file using philz cwm running on same kitkat 4.4.4 which was installed on my mobile while brick, so i will flash that zip file in his mobile and can i need to reflash the os in his mobile after flashing that zip file? or can i simply reboot his mobile after flashing that dumb file in his mobile?

is that makes any problem to his mobile for booting?
or can i proceed the steps right away?

Your guidance is much valuable for me…

          • Jagadeesh

            Dear Rohan,
With your guidance i have made the debrick image for my SHG -I727 Samsung galaxy skyrocket mobile, its showing around 128 MB, i have done successfully up to that, after that
I was writing that image to my SD card by using win 32 disc imager,
it shows writing successful, but after that my memory card shows 0 bytes used space and 0 bytes free space,
after that i read that SD card using win32 disc imager, it shows around 15.5gb file, so please let me know ., Is tha happened because of Insuffcient memory in the SD card??
or else please let me know How to reduce the size of the debrick image file..??
Kindly let me know this, as am in the final stage , so please help me…ASAP..

          • Jagadeesh

            Thanks for being my guide….

          • Jagadeesh

      • Jagadeesh

Somebody is given in xda forums, one dump zip file to make the debrick.img, they mentioned its comon for all samsung phones, and we need to flash it with cwm or TWRP, am not clear with that process,
Also am scared to use my friends mobile to do so.. so, please advice me the detail and right procedure for me bro……

        Thankyou in advance….

        • RohanKandwal

Sorry for not being able to help you, new job is taking lot of my time. Anyhow, saw what you were saying “T999_Partial_Sys_Dump_for_debrick.zip”. Don’t worry that it will brick your friend’s device, it will just copy data, write nothing so either it will create a debrick image for you or it will give you an error.

I tried the file on my Galaxy Ace but got error, it might work for you. No harm in trying. On CWM or TWRP go to “Install .zip from SD card” and then find the .zip file. If everything went smoothly, you will find a debrick image on your sd card.

      • Jagadeesh

Rohan any reply from you is helpful…..
        Thankyou..

  • John

Just to clarify what Hard bricked means…were you able to get ANYthing on your display before doing this? I tried this…and it is well written, but I have no display at all. I can’t get into CWM or download mode either…Dead…I even bought the Jig thing….nothing. would you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

    • RohanKandwal

Hard brick means the device is like a paper weight, no life at all. This tutorial will help your device to get into “Download Mode”, from there you can use Odin to flash your device.

I am sure that you tried it, but it might take some tries to get your device into the Download Mode. Double check everything.

Ok, i flashed a custom rom and as an idiot i checked 2 kernels to flash at the same time, it flashed i knew that once i clicked restart it would not turn back on, tried the back button but it only let me use restart……. long story short, i wrote this debrick image to a sd card, checked the md5 of the sd card all was correct, popped out the battery of the gs3 l710 and popped in the sd card, put in the battery, pressed and held vol+, home, pwr…. nothing…… tried again with a usb in the computer to see if it needed more power…. lo and behold, nothing……… i have windows seeing it as a unknown driver, i think a qhsusb, i flashed using linux mint on my hp mini…..
i know linux fairly well, i know it wrote to the sd card good, can you help me?
